Our relationship with Booking.com

KyotoStay is a participant in the Booking.com Affiliate Partner Programme. This means that when you click a “Check availability” button on this site and subsequently make a qualifying reservation on Booking.com, we receive an affiliate commission.

The commission is paid by Booking.com — not by you. The price you pay for your accommodation is exactly the same as if you visited Booking.com directly.

How affiliate links work on this site

Every “Check availability” link on KyotoStay routes through /go/[hotel-slug], which appends our affiliate ID to the Booking.com URL before redirecting you. This is how the commission is attributed. The redirect is transparent — you will land on the hotel’s Booking.com page with no intermediate steps or pop-ups.

Links marked with rel="sponsored" in the page HTML identify these affiliate links for search engines, in compliance with Google’s link scheme guidelines.

Does commission affect our rankings?

No. Hotels are ranked by walk time to Kyoto Station (ascending) by default, with review score and price tier as secondary sort criteria. We do not accept payment for placement, and commission rates play no role in determining which hotels appear or how they are ordered.

Our goal is for the comparison table to be a genuinely useful decision tool. A ranking that reflects money rather than merit would defeat the purpose and lose reader trust — the only sustainable position for an independent comparison site.

Booking.com programme requirements

As a Booking.com affiliate, we are required to disclose our commercial relationship and comply with Booking.com’s affiliate programme terms. This disclosure page, plus the footer notice on every page, satisfy that requirement.

FTC and international disclosure compliance

In accordance with the US Federal Trade Commission’s guidelines on endorsements and testimonials (16 C.F.R.
